Colby Ray Covington (born February 22, 1988), is an American mixed martial artist and professional wrestler competing in the welterweight division of the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC). He has an estimated net worth of approximately $4 million.

Colby Covington is a welterweight fighter in the Ultimate Fighting Championship and was an All American at Oregon State University. In February 2012, he made his professional MMA debut. Colby won the Interim UFC Welterweight Championship, which he won in June 2018. He has also won the UFC Fight of the Night twice. He was ranked #1 in the UFC’s Welterweight Rankings as of mid-2021. Covington is a professional wrestler who has competed in WrestlePro and Impact Wrestling.

Colby Covington’s Background and Early Life

Colby Ray Covington was born February 22, 1988 in Clovis, California. Noelle and Brad Covington are his parents. He has two sisters, Candace, and Callie. Brad wrestled at the Oregon Institute of Technology and Southern Oregon University. Colby moved to Oregon with his family when he was eight years old. Colby attended Thurston High School, Springfield. He was a member of the wrestling team. Covington was committed to Arizona State University but his test scores were not high enough so he enrolled instead at Iowa Central Community College. He won the national junior college title at 165 lb wrestling in his first year, and had a record of 34-0. Jon Jones was his Iowa Central roommate, and he became a UFC champion.

Colby transferred to Iowa University, but was banned from the University of Iowa’s wrestling team for one year after being arrested in August 2007 for DUI and eluding officers. His blood alcohol level was three times higher than the legal limit at the time of his arrest. He later stated that the incident was an all-time low in his life and something he wished he could regain. Covington transferred to Oregon State University and qualified for the NCAA tournament in his junior and senior years. As a senior, he was fifth and received All-American honors. Colby, who is 174 lbs, won the Pac-10 Conference twice. He also earned a bachelor’s in sociology in 2011. He won a gold medal in the FILA Grappling No-gi World Championships after graduation.

Colby Covington’s Martial Arts Career

After Covington had graduated college, he was selected for American Top Team’s mixed martial arts team. He had a 5-0 record by the time he signed to UFC in 2014. He defeated Anying Wang at UFC Fight Night 48 on August 23, 2014. This was his promotional debut with UFC. After defeating Wagner Silva at UFC Fight Night 56, and Mike Pyle at UFC 187 respectively, he lost to Warlley Allves at UFC 194 on December 2015. Colby defeated UFC Fight Night 89’s Jonathan Meunier, Max Griffin, and Mike Pyle at UFC 202. He then lost to Warlley Alves at UFC 194 in December 2015. Covington was crowned Interim UFC Welterweight champion after defeating dos Anjos. Due to complications from his nose, he was unable to fight in UFC 228 against Tyron Woodley. The organization arranged a fight between Woodley and Darren Till and informed Colby that he would lose his title.

Covington beat Robbie Lawler UFC 5 main event in August 2019. He also set a new record for the most strikes thrown in UFC fights (541). In December 2019, he fought Kamaru Uman for the Welterweight Championship. He suffered a fracture to his left mandible during the third round. Colby was defeated by Usman via technical knockout. They rematched in November 2021. Usman won by unanimous decision. Colby broke off all ties with American Top Team and told “The Score” that he was a Colby Covington incorporated member. His Personal life

Covington was charged with fourth-degree assault in May 2010. He was accused of punching two men during a verbal altercation. Colby was not charged by the Benton County District Attorney’s Office. Colby is a vocal supporter Donald Trump and the Republican Party. He visited the White House after winning the Interim UFC Welterweight Championship and presented Trump the title. Colby dedicated his victory to the military, first responders, as well as criticizing Black Lives Matter, a movement Tyron Woodley had supported prior to the fight. He said, “Black Lives Matter” is a complete sham. It’s a joke. They are taking people who are terrorists. These are evil people.” He also said, “If that wasn’t a beating, then wait until November 3, when Donald Trump gets his hand on Sleepy Joe.” It’s going be a landslide. Covington allegedly broke a tooth in March 2022 after being attacked at Papi Steak Restaurant, Miami Beach by Jorge Masvidal, a UFC competitor. Masvidal was charged for criminal mischief, and aggravated battery.
