Trina was a child and wrote rap rhymes in her spare time. This caught the attention of Trick Daddy, a Miami rapper who approached Trina in 1998 to feature on his song “Nann Nigga”. Later, the song was released as the lead single on Trick Daddy’s second studio album “”, released in September 1998. It was a huge hit and reached number sixty-two in the US Billboard Hot 100. Trina released her debut album, “Da Baddest Bitch”, on March 21, 2000. The album debuted at number 33 on the US Billboard 200, and number 11 on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums charts. The RIAA certified “Da Baddest Bitch” as Gold in November 2000. It was on the Billboard 200 chart for 29 weeks, and the Hip-Hop/R&B album charts for 39 weeks.

Trina started working on her second album in 2001 with Missy Elliot and was granted more creative control. She started her own record label, Diva Enterprises, and signed her first client, Lil’ Brianna (a nine-year old artist). Trina released “Diamond Princess”, her second album, in August 2002. After a long battle with cancer, Verness Taylor, her mother, died September 2019, at the age of 62. Tragically, her brother Wilbrent Jr. was killed in 2013. Between 2005 and 2007, Trina was in a relationship with rapper Lil Wayne. Trina and Lil Wayne were briefly engaged, but Trina had a miscarriage during that time. They have matching tattoos that each of their names, even though they left the relationship. She dated Kenyon Martin, a basketball player, from 2007 to 2010. She dated French Montana, a rapper, from 2012 to 2014. Trina started dating Raymond Taylor in 2017. The couple confirmed their engagement in September 2021.

Trina was nominated for ten BET Awards. Nineteen of those nominations were for Best Female Hip Hop artist. She has also been nominated three Soul Train Music Awards. She has been nominated and won three Source Awards. Her other nominations include an American Music Award, six nominations for the 2002 MTV Video Music Awards and a nomination for a MTV Sucker Free Summit Award.
